Monome+Ohm64 = mono+ohm

With this nifty app (or use as source Max/MSP patch), you can use applications designed for the monome controller with your Ohm64. LED commands from monome apps (currently supported: /led /row and /col) are intercepted and converted to sysex for the Ohm64, and MIDI from the Ohm64 is converted to OpenSoundControl and sent to the monome applications. This opens up a whole new world of creative possibilities – I hope you find each and every one!

Of course, this only uses the 64 button grid. The rest of the ohm’s controls can be used for other applications or sounds, or for extending the opensource monome apps. Kick ass!

Max/MSP users can of course pull apart the source. I’ve simplified some of the Ohm64 LED control patching so it no longer relies on Jitter (meaning it doesn’t rely on Quicktime!), so this currently stands as a better example of sysex LED control than the FMSynth or Editor source code. Those will soon get updated with the method used in this patch.

OhmSampler – v01, a preliminary release.

September 10, 2009

A preliminary version is available if you can’t wait to get your hands on it.
OSX: http://lividserver.com/dl/ohm/OhmSampler_v01-OSX.zip
Windows: http://lividserver.com/dl/ohm/OhmSampler_v01-XP.zip
This comes in standalone, plugin, and source versions. I did this in Max/MSP 4.6 (the old one) so I can export it as a VST/RTAS/AU plugin, using their dying Pluggo technology.
Here’s a brief demo that tells you pretty much everything you need to know!

For Max/MSP users, it’s a good example of how to build a simple sampler in Max/MSP, as well how to use poly~, pattrstorage, build a pluggo plugin (even though it’s on it’s way out, it’s still useful), and standalone. What more could you hope to learn?

OhmSound v004

August 26, 2009

Durnit! Seems that v3 had a couple bugs with the new scales system. I also fixed some bugs that produced incorrect scales. So let’s try that again:

OhmSound v3

August 21, 2009

Of course, after a first release, there has to be an update.
This fixes bugs with changing presets, allows naming of presets, and saves the state of all changes to scales and chords on each row.
Additionally, this version does not reprogram the Ohm64 with new button assignments, but, rather, handles the transposition on the host computer. This way, the LEDs will not get mixed up in the event that multiple buttons are assigned the same note number.

LED Mapping

August 13, 2009

Pete made a new version of the Ohm64Editor is available (version 1.0.3). This version introduces LED pattern mapping. Using the LED pattern maker in the Editor software you can create patterns on the indicator LED’s (a.k.a. talkback) to create interfaces, patterns, or animations for interacting with your controller. These patterns can be saved in presets and there is also an option to import an image with threshold adjustments to turn it into a pattern. This can be useful for creating sections of the clip bank to be used as a drum pad, or setting up rows and columns for triggering. Here is a brief video where I show you how it all works. The standalone application and source code are available on our downloads page.

Here is another little video Pete made showing the details of the picture to light converter in the editor
